Until recently, I hadn’t worn a skirt in at least 5 years. My midsection is where I carry most of my weight and it makes me self-conscious to wear pants/skirts. I mostly stick to dresses-with empire waists or skater dresses as they flatter my body type. But this summer, I wanted to love my body, flaws and all. Also-there are way too many cute skirts out here for me to worry about my pooch being on display. So, skirts have made their way into my outfit rotation.
I’ve been pairing them with graphic tees, camis, and my summer staple- a denim vest. I’m glad I decided to try something out of my norm. It adds another dimension to my wardrobe and wearing them has made me feel more positive about my body. It highlights the part of my body I’m most self-conscious about, but I still feel cute and confident when I wear them. Who knows!? Maybe I’ll be wearing jeans next!
Probably not anytime soon. Baby steps. 😉

Hearts and Hearts Vintage has a couple of exciting things planned for October. First up is Tako’s Treasures-a vintage pop up market in downtown Memphis for the month of October. For the entire month Erica of Tako’s Treasures is curating a vintage and art market featuring local vendors and artists. I’m so excited to be getting the exposure that this location gives. The space is amazing and it is filled with amazing vintage clothing, shoes, accessories, house wears…you get the point. If you’re local, definitely check it out! It’s located at 7 N. Main, Downtown Memphis from 11am-7PM every day in October!
Not in Memphis? Most of the vendors can be found online!!

Trashy Diva is having a sale on their sale section! 50% off of items that are already significantly cheaper than their original prices. Know what that means?! It means I purchased my first TD dress! I’m so excited to get it and I hope it fits. *crosses fingers*
The Crybaby Club (shoutout to Memphis’ own Natalie, the creator) is having a sale on their pins all week long. $5 for these awesome enamel pins. Including my favorite and most worn, the Memphis Heart enamel pin.
Not a sale, but Funlola’s Workshop (another Memphis shop) had a shop update with lots of new items added to her shop. My favorite are the succulent necklaces! Have a visit to her shop and follow her on Instagram for behind the scene looks on how she creates her pieces. Each one is amazing and painstakingly detailed.
We had a rare under 90 degree day in Memphis so I spent the day in one of my favorite vintage dresses usually reserved for fall. I usually stay as far away from my polyester vintage as possible during the summer, but this one is so breathable and so darn cute, I pulled it out.
So many things about this dress make it my favorite. The color, the accordion skirt, the button up top, and hello!! I could match it to one of my pairs of spectacles! I purchased it from one of my favorite Instagram shops, Shop Maeberry! Instagram shopping will be the end of me! It has replaced Etsy for my go to vintage shopping.
I bought this dress a couple of months ago, but haven’t worn it until today. It’s from the Victoria Beckham collection at my fave, Target. I loved the silhouette and the mod-ish look so I had to have it (and two others from her collection).
I paired it with black and white bangles and my new bag. A black straw circular purse that I picked up while thrifting in Little Rock, Arkansas last weekend. I’m a sucker for straw/wicker bags and I was happy to add this unique one to my collection.

I love wearing dark colors. The majority of my wardrobe is black and I’ve been challenging myself to wear and buy clothing with more color and patterns. But, gah! It’s so hard. I made an exception and bought this little tank dress from Old Navy when they were having a $10 dress sale(I can’t resist those). It spoke to me because it’s short, sleeveless, and blousy! Perfect for this Memphis heat! I purchased the dress with the promise that I would wear it with something that popped! And so, I did. I’m really into the current kimono trend. They’re perfect statement pieces for the summer. It can change a little simple black shift dress into something more. I was drawn to this one, because of the vibrant, bold floral design and the fringe on the hem. Cute, right? I also added this white Fish bone necklace from Tatty Devine! It really stands out against my all black ensemble. How do you jazz up your simple dresses?

I’ve been dreaming of the perfect gingham dress for summer and I’ve finally found it!
I picked this blue and white gingham dress up from Target and I couldn’t be happier with it. It’s 100% cotton, so comfortable and breezy! The skirt is very full giving it a fun vintage inspired look. The dress is available in a small up to XXL!
Are you on board with the gingham trend? I can’t get enough!

My wishlists and Pinterest boards are filled with geeky clothing that need to live in my closet! It was so very hard to choose just five. Actually, it was a lot easier after I banned myself from having more than one Sailor Moon item on the list >.< Here are five geeky clothing items I need in my closet…NOW!
ModCloth’s Trip to Kawaii Dress is almost too cute! Covered in Sanrio characters including my favorite, Hello Kitty. I’ve wanted this dress forever, but it always sells out in my size first.
Sailor Moon Skater Dress from Living Dead is EVERYTHING. Love another senshi? THEY HAVE THEM ALL!
Jinx of MTCoffinz creates these awesome apron/pinafore skirts that can be custom made to whatever you fancy. I’ve always wanted this Reese from Animal Crossing pinafore. I love Animal Crossing and think it would be fun to wear at a con. Now, to convince the boof to wear Cyrus’ costume.
I love geeky themed leggings. These Totoro themed leggings made to order ones from Zelas are awesome.
I live in dresses, but how could I say no to a shirt featuring bad ass Ryuko Matoi of Kill la Kill? I couldn’t! So this shirt it’s the last item of my list! Kill la Kill is the show that re-launched my love for anime (It’s on Netflix and Crunchyroll!) and Ryuko is…awesome.
What geeky clothing items are on your wishlist? Did you participate in Fandom Friday? You should! Shoutout to The Nerdy Girlie and Super Space Chick for creating such a fun and geeky link-up!
I love hair accessories. If you see me, more likely that not, I’m wearing a headband to hold my hair back or have a clip of some kind adorning my hair. This edition of Friday faves is dedicated to rad hair accessories made by equally rad ladies.
